We present results of a retrospective study dealing with the diagnostics of Chlamydia trachomatis by means of direct immunofluorescent method in the years 1997-2003 in the eastern region of the Czech Republic. Chlamydia infections are discussed both by specialists and general practitioners to such an extent that we decided (a little untraditionally) to include a brief survey of them into the introduction.
In the set of 6,126 patients´ samples suspected for chlamydia infection, we found positivity in 14.4%, from which 14.1% in the urogenital system of women and 15.2% in men, in smears from conjunctivae 14.1%, and in materials from lower airways 3.7%.
