Publication at First Faculty of Medicine |
2005

Abstract

The paper deals with the state of pain control in the primary care. The author gives some data from the international and Czech literature on the prevalence of chronic pain and on the quality of pain therapy.

He points out the increasing interest of general practitioners on malignant and nonmalignant pain as a consequence of better knowledge of acute and chronic pain mechanisms. He emphasizes the role of special medical societies and Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic in the intensifying healthcare for pain patients.

Attitudes of general practitioners towards pain problems reflect the list of their participation in various special activities and projects. The given data show that pain problems are growing up in the hierarchy of special interest of general practitioners in our country.
