Uterine leiomyoma, Case Report

Publication at First Faculty of Medicine |
2003

Abstract

The most frequent pelvic tumour in females is uterine leiomyoma ? a benign tumour consisting of smooth muscle cells and extracellular matrix formed from collagen, proteoglycans and fibronectin. Uterine myoma is a result of non-capsulated clonal proliferation of leiomyocytes; it is hormone depending and both estrogen and progesterone receptors can be detected.

The data of its prevalence vary to a great extent ? from 20 % to 50 % in fertile women.
