Abstract

The aim of our study was to review health state in postmenopausal women with long-term hormone replacement therapy and compare it with health state in postmenopausal women without hormone treatment with focuse on metabolic estrogen-deficiency syndrom and its influence on the risk of osteoporosis. Due to dual X-ray absorptiometry we determined bone mineral density (T?score) in the area of the lumbar vertebrae L1?L4 and the femoral neck.

Our results indicate that use of hormone replacement therapy in postmenopausal women may be of benefit on bone mineral density, especially in the area of the lumbar spine, whereas does not influence significantly bone mineral density in the femoral neck.
