Abstract

Lower gastrointestinal bleeding has been less frequent and usually less serious when compared with bleeding to the upper part of gastrointestinal tract.Nevertheless is an important issue both for diagnostics and treatment.Source of bleeding is large bowel (~60 %), small bowel (~10 %) and anus (~10 %).Despite of detailed investigation source of bleeding remains unknownin 10 %.Colonoscopy, pushenteroscopy and intra-operative endoscopy are used for endoscopic treatment of bleeding. Several modalities are available, such as injection technique (epinephrine, tissue glue), electro-thermo-coagulation (mono- and bipolar electro-coagulation, heater probe, hot biopsy, argon-plasma coagulation, laser) and mechanical (hemo-clip, band ligation).

Treatment must be always complex and fully individualized to the particular patient.
