Premixed insulin mixtures in clinical practice

Publication at First Faculty of Medicine |
2006

Abstract

Premix insulins are mixtures of short and intermediate-acting insulin in different proportions: fast acting soluble and NPH insulin or short-acting analogue and its retarded form. Premix insulins can sometimes be used on an ancillary basis in type 1 diabetes patients, while in type 2 diabetes patients the use of premix insulin mixture is a good alternative to insulin treatment.

A survey carried out on a randomly selected set of diabetic patients basis in the Centre of Diabetology of Hradec Kralove Teaching Hospital showed that premix insulin treatment was used in 10 % of type 1 diabetes patients and in more than 5 % of type 2 diabetes patients treated with insulin.
