Severe hypothermia is associated with high mortality rate inspite of convenient therapy. Patients suffering from hypothermia must by treated in specialized hospitals only.
In case of hypothermic cardiac arrest, extracorporeal rewarmimg is preferred therapeutic method. All the EMS staffs should be able to identify severe hypothermia using simple diagnostic procedures and manage primary transport of the patient into appropriate department.
Algorithms should respect local conditions and habits but always trying to minimize delay until start of extracorporeal circulation if indicated.
