HPV vaccination - beginning of the end of cervical carcinoma

Abstract

In 1983 the researchers of the Harald zur Hausen laboratory in Heidelberg discovered that human papilloma virus (HPV) type 16 represents the leading factor in pathogenesis of pre-invasive and invasive cervical carcinoma. This finding initiated changes in the screening methods to diagnose carcinoma of uterine cervix and launched the idea of HPV immunization that is being introduced into practice.

We are facing many questions how to introduce new knowledge into the system of prevention.
