Nestin, vimentin and GFAP coexpression in reactive astrocytes in response to the striatal neurotoxic lesion

Abstract

We focused on the immediate reaction of astrocytes (at 3, 7 and 14 days after the quolinic acid lesion) to developing neurodegenerative process within the striatum in an animal model of Huntington?s disease. Our results show that reactive astrocytes in acute phase of the neurodegenerative process share some features with adult stem or progenitor cells committed to the gliogenesis.
