Abstract

Hirsutism is defined as an excessive hair growth in women in intensity and locations typical of men. It is a symptom of hyperandrogenaemia, Androgens are produced by cells of theca in excessive amount, low FSH level does not contribute to the sufficient aromatisation.

The estradiol/estron ratio is changed and estron prevails. Production of LH is increasing without ovulation due to lacking feedback of estron on the anterior pituitary gland.

Overproduction of LH results in ovarian cysts formation.
