Computerized periodontal probe (Florida probe)

Publication at First Faculty of Medicine |
2004

Abstract

The authors give reasons why the computerized probes were developed. Their advantage is more precise and reproducible measurement without the help of other people.

The possibility of comparing the periodontal state in the course of treatment makes it possible to assess the progress of the treatment. The authors give their own experience when they compare the time consumption of the classical manual examination with that of the Florida Probe computer device.

They found that the time difference between both types of examination is small, only three minutes longer is the examination by the computer probe during a complex periodontal examination of the parodont. Comparison of the measured depths of periodontal pockets by both the methods showed that the manual way measured the depth of the pockets larger by 0.91 mm.
