Sepsis in intensive care

Publication at First Faculty of Medicine |
2005

Abstract

Sepsis and its complications present a group of major problems in intensive medicine that result in high morbidity and mortality rate of patients in critical conditions of whichever type of etiology. At the same time, they increase the costs of treatment of these patients.

An international expert team, the International Sepsis Forum, has worked out a comprehensive summary of ?Guidelines for the Management of Severe Sepsis and Septic Shock? (2001) as an appendix to the journal Intensive Care Medicine. Being aware of the importance and urgency of the problems, the Section of Intensive Medicine of the Czech Society of Anesthesiology, Resuscitation, and Intensive Medicine initiated the publication of the text coming out of the original recommendations.

Single chapters are modified by our prominent experts in the field of intensive medicine to create guidelines for daily clinical practice.
