Cognitive dysfunction in patients with systemic lupus erythematodes with or without antiphospholipid antibodies

Abstract

Impairment of cognitive functions is one of the neuropsychiatric symptoms of systemic lupus erythemathosus (SLE) in general and, connected with antiphospholipid syndrome, in particular. The aim of present study was to compare 'mini-mental state examination' (MMSE) outcomes in SLE patients with antiphospholipid antibodies (APA) and without APA.

Probands producing APA presented with significantly worse results in MMSE when compared to patients without these antibodies. There was no difference between patients with antisphospholipid syndrome and patients with APA only.
