Possibilities of combined surgical treatment of lung tumours and heart diseases

Abstract

The purpose of the study was a retrospective evaluation of the outcome of surgical therapy of lung cancer in patients where there was a concomitant cardiac disease and who underwent a cardiac operation either because of ischemic heart disease or because of valvular disease. These patients were operated on in various time intervals (2 to 10 months) from their cardiac operation.

Some patients were operated on the lung cancer after the cardiac operation because of the high risk of possible heart postoperativeal complications; in one patient the lung operation preceded the cardiac one.
