Factors affecting postoperative leakage complications in rectal tumour resection

Abstract

The low anterior resection of the rectum performed by the total mesorectal excision is, from an oncologic point of view, a sufficiently radical surgical procedure in rectal carcinoma treatment. A serious problem of this operation is the possibility of postoperative anastomosis leacage.

The higher age of male patients seems to present a risk factor for the occurence of anastomosis dehiscence in the tested group of patients.
