Physiotherapy in anxiety disorders patients

Publication

Abstract

Physiotherapy is a part of the komplex therapy in anxiety disorders patients. Anxiety has its somatical correlate, neurovegetative changes as well as impairment of movement apparatus function quality: muscle tension change ant its redistribution (muscle tonus increasing in postural muscles and specific postural reactions as "defensive mechanisms") and impairment of postural muscle system related to impaired stability.

We usually meet acute problems in neck and head joints area and temporomandibular joints area. Respiratory changes following anxiety affect muscle system function and so mentioned symptoms are even bigger.

Physiotherapy is focused on these local functional changes of movement apparatus as well as body awareness therapy, awareness of relationship between anxietyand somatical symptoms, relaxation techniques, breathing exercises and specific kineziotherapeutical methods using physical activity as Feldenkrais method, yoga and so on.
