Abstract
The paper focuses on Gladstone´s attitude to navy estimates in 1894. Owing to his reluctance to increase navy expeditures, he was forced to retire.
Study analzses both Gladstone´s point of view and attitudes of his opponents to naval armament and thus portrays circumstancies of Gladstone´s retirement.
