Abstract
European literatures created since renaissance several typical myths of modern life, among others the Faust myth. Author demonstrates the disastrous influence of the Faust principle in three novels: Luzhin´s Defense by Vladimir Nabokov, Doctor Faust by Thomas Mann, The Night Work by Jáchym Topol.
