Media image of privacy in political communication in Czech Republic

Abstract

This article is mapping the situation of media representation of privacy issues in political communication in the Czech Republic (2006-10). The text outcomes from the dissertation thesis Public Privacy: Interaction of political marketing and media communication on the example of private life of Czech politicians (1989-2010).

The thesis uses the critical discourse analysis (van Dijk 1998) to analyze the change in represented media image of privacy. Throughout the past years, which are examined in this article, the private life became also a form of political tool how to address it's publics and voters and create a "package" of their own desired political personality to get more political power.
