Abstract

Grenouille, the protagonist of the famous novel by Patrick Süskind "Perfume", lacked body odor, and tried to make it in the form of an irresistible perfume. The team around Jean-Christophe Billtera Toronto has managed to create such Grenouille the popular model of biological species, flies, fruit flies.

It was about individuals who were specifically excluded activity of genes coding for enzymes involved in the synthesis of pheromones hydrocarbon base. These enzymes are expressed only in special cells inside of the abdominal skin, called enocyty.

Drosophila produce a rich cocktail of chemicals that are involved in courtship and copulation, and so researchers could that prevent the production enocytů, and then sprayed some insect matter for testing of different pheromones and their interaction.
