Author explores the reasons that influenced failure of MLF. He concetrates his effort mainly on politics of the United States and Federal Republic Germany.
Main part of the study is focused on the year 1964, which author believes was crucial for non-realization of MLF. The goal of the study is to point out the differences between politics of Bonn and Washington.
On one hand, chancellor Erhard was eager to finish the project. On the other hand, president Lyndon Johnson hesitated much more.
Bonn hoped that because of the project it could be possible further improvement of international position of FRG. Washington didn't want to give up his nuclear dominance in the West.
MLF became just part of Johnson's strategy in the international enviroment. Anyway, the goverment in Washington didn't want go on with the project on the bilateral basis just with FRG.
In the end, 1964 wasn't final year for MLF, but it showed very clearly that the realization would be very complicated.
