Electrochemical determination of propyl gallate on carbon paste electrode

Publication at Faculty of Science |
2010

Abstract

Two methods for the determination of propyl gallate, a controversial artificial antioxidant, are developed, based on differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) and HPLC with electrochemical detection (HPLC-ED), employing carbon paste electrode as the working electrode. Optimum conditions for the determination were found.

For the DPV measurement, the supporting electrolyte consisted of 20% methanol (v/v) and B-R buffer pH 5. HPLC measurement wasperformed on C18 column, mobile phase consisted of phosphate buffer pH 4 and methanol(50 %, v/v) and detection potential was +0.8 V.

The applicability of the methods was tested on the sample of vegetable oil.
