A Grammar of Contemporary Spanish. Linguistic Interpretational Approach

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2010

Abstract

The book offers a structuralist and functional perspective on the grammar of contemporary Spanish. The introduction, presenting the theoretical framework, is followed by three principal sections structured into a number of chapters.

The first section deals with the phonetics and phonology of contemporary Spanish; the second section is concerned with the morphology of word-classes and their grammatical categories; the third section is devoted to the syntax of the utterance, the complex and the simple sentence. Along with a normative view of contemporary Spanish, the grammar presents the reader with a self-contained theoretical framework of the language's system which is informed not only by the Prague School traditions but also by the most recent trends in Spanish linguistics.

The material has been drawn from a number of sources including corpora of modern Spanish.
