Philosophy of As-If: Wellek, Vaihinger and Iser

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2010

Abstract

Although René Wellek consulted his Habilitationschrift Immanuel Kant in England (1931) with the German Neo-Kantian philosopher Hans Vaihinger, he was not inspired by the fundamental feature of his approach, a discursive and functional analysis of scientific and literary language based on his theory of fictions. This aspekt of Vaihinger´s thought has been developed only by Wolfgang Iser in his new anthropological approach to culture interpreting fiction as an interface between the humans and the universe.
