Abstract

The article deals with historical saints from the eastern Christian tradition, which served as paradigms for the development of the cultural and religious identity for the nations in which they served. Further it discusses the issue of how these figures where compared to the apostolic tradition found in the Gospels and how these defined or redifined the coneptions of the apostle and the equal to the apostles.
