Abstract

A basis of multiphonon states is generated by constructing and solving iteratively a set of equations of motion. Represented in this basis, the Hamiltonian has a simple structure and can be easily brought to diagonal form.

The method is adopted to compute the energy levels and the electromagnetic responses in 16O, chosen as test ground because of its complex structure.
